The five Day course
The five day course is a closely directed learning experience, focusing students on applying the techniques and skills necessary to design and make one pair of shoes.
We appreciate that every student is different and tuition is guided to suit your skill level.
All materials to make your first pair of shoes on the course will be supplied .
Materials for additional pairs made will be charged accordingly.
Specialised materials and leathers can be sourced at your request: prices on application.
A pattern is made on the Last (i.e. the foot model). This design is drawn on the last then transferred to a cardboard pattern. A test of this pattern will be made from scrap leather to ensure fit and design. This is called a “Pullover” or trial shoe. The pullover is assessed and tweaked for fit and style. A pattern is then made which represents the design and appropriate measurements.
The Leather. Choosing your leather and cutting the pattern pieces.
This is where all the pieces that comprise the upper part of the shoe are skived,
folded and stitched together.
Is the process where the stitched upper is pulled over the Last and fastened to the insole.
Once the upper is attached and the stiffeners are inserted and set, the sole and heel is attached.
This is where the sole and heel is trimmed cleaned and socked ready for wear.
All shoes made by the student are for the student to keep
Course starts at 10am Monday then runs through to 4pm daily until Friday with a one hour break for lunch.
